The Met-A-Sil Fluid Applied Roofing System was designed by American WeatherStar to restore and protect commercial and industrial metal roof systems. AWS designed the system based on the strengths of its Met-A-Sil System components: AWS Urethane Brush-Grade 522 and AWS Silicone 410.

This system starts by addressing any rust that exists on the metal panels or fasteners. Next, all seams and fasteners are sealed with AWS Urethane Brush-Grade 522, our strongest flashing grade material. Finally, two coats of AWS Silicone 410 are applied as it offers the highest level of UV stability and water resistance available in the industry.

The Process

It is important to review application guidelines for each specific metal roof panel as coverage rates do vary.
All application guidelines are available on the AWS website. The process of installing the Met-A-Sil System remains fairly consistent for each type of metal roof:

• Pressure Wash
• Look for problem areas
• Any visible rust or previously painted area will be treated with AWS Primer.
• All seams are closed and securely fastened. Loose or missing fasteners must be replaced.
• Waterproof both vertical and horizontal seams as well as all fasteners with AWS Urethane Brush-Grade 522
• Apply Base Layer of AWS Silicone 410
• Apply Top Layer of AWS Silicone 410

Rusty Panels

Rust, also known as Iron Oxide, is formed by a chemical reaction in which Iron oxidizes when in the presence of oxygen and water or excessive moisture. Iron Oxide lacks many of the structural characteristics of the original Iron material and will continue to spread deeper into the material. If left alone, rust will almost always result in total failure of the panel. AWS Rust Primers are designed to neutralize existing rust as well as prevent it from advancing its damage.

Skylights

Never apply any roofing product that will obscure or hide a skylight from someone on a roof. The result of covering or obscuring a skylight could be death.

Skylights, if still within their serviceable life, can be renewed and restored with AWS Acrylic 230 Clear liquid applied membrane.

Sustainable Warranties

We offer twelve and fifteen year non-prorated warranty options utilizing the Met-A-Sil System. These systems can be renewed at the end of the term.
